  1. why all that hassle? i bought two peavey cs 1200 power amps for $600 now i have 1200rms watts 4ohm per channel and i’ll i have to do is plug in to 110 plug.

  2. put it this way. does the CAR BATTERY have any amount of “watts” NO so all u need is a power supply thats over 200 watts till whenever it stops i dont think u can do anything under that xD hope i helped. and if u want a little more info maybe check out “barevids” video about his Fusion amp hooked up with a power supply.

  3. hey thanks heaps for this diagram

Any help with why my PSU is shutting off when I connect to the head unit? All +12V wires (yellow) ganged together and all ground (black) ganged together. Red and yellows from the head unit connected to power and blacks connected as well. 500 watt PSU shuts down immediately. Ideas (anyone)?

  5. im guessing your subwoofer or speakers are too powerful……thats wot hapnd to my system when i put the volume up high the psu shut off

you must wire the red and yellow together en then put it in the 12volts output that what i did whit my head unit

  7. becuase its a crap psu and its switch mode.

    Genius! Thanks for the help.

  9. to be actually helpful, check the voltages make sure theres no shorts, possibly drawing too much current or the short circuit protection is kicking in.

    Is this your setup?
I’m lookin to hook up the same but with a 1200w/4 with a 1000w psu, would that work..?

Anyone chime in and let me know!
    Thanks

  11. can i run two power supplies on one amp?

  12. @PowerOfDixieland No mate you need to tell the p[ower supply to be on so what you have to do is link a black and green cable together from power supply and then you should be ok

4 10 inch subs 1200 watt ssl amp i have all the 12v connections from the psu to the amp it runs for 2 mins then the heavey bass will shut down the psu it says on the psu brand name is newton ltd 12 volt 90 amp max is the psu strong enophe

  14. manuel9521683 on May 13th, 2010 at 12:57 am

@PowerOfDixieland maybe cuz it cant handle it or you got to many things connect because your head unit is maybe drawing to much energy

  15. questions about amp and psu size>>> Im thinking that to keep your PSU from turning off when turned up, you will need to make sure everything at max output is within the max power of your PSU or below….Im am sure that if you have a 800w amp and only a 600w PSU, that the PSU will be maxed by the time the amp is turned to 3/4 load…. If the PSU is constantly working at max, it will heat up and shut down for a bit……

  16. @bestdeafguy11
More than likely yes, but I would go with a 650 due to the fact that the power supply only peaks at 500 the higher wattage supply you get the better off you are, check on ebay or something I found quite a few 1000watt supplies for less than 20 on there.

can you do this without a head unit?

  18. @HunterTheMetalHead not that i can think of but i guess any player that has a 12volt lead will probably do the job

  19. if you tie all your yellows together and all the blacks together you can run your system harder cuz your pushing more amps each yellow wire carrys 1-2 amps so if you have like 7 yellows you have 7-14 amps

head unit means your i pod or cd player ,and u cant listen song without i pod or cd player

  21. MrAustinBeshear on June 18th, 2010 at 11:05 pm

@zazooon No, no you cant. Its the same if you use all or just 1 of each. They all come from the same spot on the power supply just different yellows go to different parts of a computer, floppy cd drive, etc.. So you are wrong. Sorry.

  22. @HunterTheMetalHead yes

  23. uh, sorry, bit of a noob question, but my car radio has a (red and white) stereo cable in it already. can i hook it up to my existing stereo and it would work (that is with all the power set up for the car radio)

  24. @Trainguyxx All u hav to do is hook up the 12volt and power cable from stereo to the 12 volt cable on ur power supply. And ofcourse the ground cable from stereo to power supply. See diagram.

  25. this helped so so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
